Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III appointed Ivan Savvidi to be a Spiritual ambassador of Jerusalem Patriarchate in Eastern Europe and the Russian-speaking world.
"As such, and in continuation of the devotion which Mr Savvidi demonstrated for a long time, he will defend and proclaim the legitimate rights and powers of the Patriarchate of the Holy Land to protect the holy places, to establish contact with the Russian Orthodox Church, congregations and fraternities, and all people of goodwill- is said in a Patriarch of Jerusalem letter.
Earlier he handed Ivan Savvidi the highest Award of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church — the Order of the Holy Sepulcher — for significant contributions to the support and development of the Christian traditions, interfaith dialogue to ensure religious harmony and peace, merits in preserving the Christian shrines on the Holy Land.
